NARCOTIC DECONTAMINATION & TESTING

Narcotic Decontamination & Testing

BioChem Remediation provides professional clandestine drug lab and drug residue testing, analysis and decontamination services nationwide. We have the experience and education needed to resolve the most complex illegal drug remediation issues.  We are OSHA compliant and adhere to EPA drug lab guidelines.

If your home, property or vehicle has been affected by meth, fentanyl, or other narcotics from drug lab activities or drug usage, all federal and state guidelines should be adhered to for the safety of all occupants.  BioChem Remediation’s experienced, certified professionals are available 24/7 to answer any questions about these safety procedures and guide you through the testing and abatement process.

Our narcotics division oversees drug lab decontamination and narcotic residue testing involving methamphetamine, fentanyl and other illegal drugs.  We utilize our trained experts with multiple years of extensive project experience to return a contaminated property back to a clean and safe environment.

BioChem Remediation starts with gathering your property history.  This is followed up with a preliminary site assessment which includes inspections for physical evidence of drug paraphernalia and possibly chemical precursors used in manufacturing Schedule I narcotics, or residue of Schedule II-V narcotics.  While on site, certified technicians perform controlled sample collection for testing for drug residue.  Depending on mitigating factors during the inspection, soil and water sampling would be warranted during this stage.  All samples are sent to an independent accredited laboratory utilizing certified industrial hygienists to conduct testing and analysis of all results.

Once the lab completes their process and analysis, a report is available showing quantitative levels of narcotics.  These levels determine what steps need to be taken to bring your property back to a safe environment.

As for samples that do not detect any drug residue or are below the state threshold limit, we prepare a final report including the lab results documenting that no further actions are needed. If the results are positive and are greater than your state guidelines requiring decontamination, we will prepare a proposal for the abatement of your property. If your state does not have guidelines regulating illicit drug residue, we follow MN Department of Health guidelines since they are one of the first states to adopt threshold guidelines with detailed standards.

Samples that are determined to have drug levels above the state or federal limits will be reported to you.  We will discuss the test results with you, prepare a formal proposal and a Health and Safety Plan (HASP) for your review for the proper decontamination of your property.  Once approved, we will move forward with the decontamination process. We will follow the scope of work and time schedule as predetermined for decontamination of your property.  Technicians complete the documentation process to regulatory standards to restore your property to a habitable condition.  All work activities are documented along with a photolog for your records.  Lastly, sampling with be conducted for post remediation (clearance testing) upon abatement completion with accredited lab results.

Fentanyl Impacted Property Safety Information

The DEA issued a nationwide alert on fentanyl as a threat to health and public safety in 2015 and has been a growing epidemic since then. Fentanyl is a dangerous, powerful Schedule I narcotic responsible for an epidemic of overdose deaths within the United States. During the last two years, the distribution of clandestinely manufactured fentanyl has been linked to an unprecedented outbreak of thousands of overdoses and deaths. The overdoses are occurring at an alarming rate and are the basis for this safety alert.

Fentanyl, up to 50 times more potent than heroin, is extremely dangerous to property owners, residents and anyone else who may come into contact with it. As a result, it represents an unusual hazard for law enforcement.

Fentanyl, a synthetic opiate painkiller, is being mixed with heroin to increase its potency, but dealers and buyers may not know exactly what they are selling or ingesting. Many users underestimate the potency of fentanyl. The dosage of fentanyl is a microgram, one millionth of a gram – similar to just a few granules of table salt. Fentanyl can be lethal and is deadly at very low doses. Fentanyl and its analogues come in several forms including powder, blotter paper, tablets, and spray.

We have the knowledge and experience along with the proper tools and equipment to mitigate these scenarios. We follow a very complex health and safety plan that is executed down to every last detail to guarantee the safety of all those that are involved with the impacted property.

Upon notification of fentanyl use or believed to be used in an illicit operation, the property or unit should be considered a chemically contaminated property, and it should be posted to restrict access in accordance with federal and state procedures as outlined for clandestine drug lab/fentanyl impacted properties in order to protect public health.

As the responsible party, the property owner should be contacted as soon as possible and informed of the situation and requirements for mitigation. The general framework of the process for the cleanup and decontamination of the fentanyl contaminated property should be established by an experienced, certified clandestine drug lab decontamination company. The dwelling should be considered unsafe for human occupancy until post decontamination sampling and analysis demonstrates the property is fit for occupancy. The posting restricting any unauthorized access to the property should only be removed after it has been deemed safe by a certified drug lab project manager trained and experienced with fentanyl lab sampling and clearance requirements.
BioChem Remediation leads the industry in the testing and remediation of fentanyl contaminated properties.

Methamphetamine Impacted Property Safety Information

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), nearly all the methamphetamines sold in the United States today is manufactured in Mexico, and it is purer and more potent than in years past. The shift to Mexican-manufactured methamphetamine is evidenced by the dramatic decline in domestic clandestine lab seizures according to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), but the rise in usage is apparent with meth related incidents throughout the United States.

Methamphetamine is a highly addictive central nervous system stimulant. Methamphetamine use is associated with a range of health harms, including psychosis and other mental disorders, cardiovascular and renal dysfunction, infectious disease transmission, and overdose which can result in death. Methamphetamine availability and meth overdose deaths have increased in the United States.

Meth usage is a major source of property contamination and a major health risk.  The drug residue is a chemical compound that cannot be removed by general cleaners, bleach or other chemicals that claim to remove the residue with just direct contact.  Methamphetamine residue remains in the property forever until properly decontaminated using specific compounds to neutralize and breakdown the meth chemical makeup and mechanically removing the residue or building materials.  All areas that are contaminated must have controlled access so as not to cross contaminate nonimpacted portions of the property.  Other procedures may require encapsulation of areas of the property following decontamination activities.

We have the knowledge and experience along with the proper tools and equipment to mitigate these scenarios. We follow a very complex health and safety plan that is executed down to every detail to guarantee the safety of all those that are involved with the impacted property.

BioChem Remediation provides the labor, equipment and technical expertise to ensure that all meth and drug lab cleanup activities are completed correctly. At the conclusion of any decontamination project the client will receive a complete report documenting all completed activities. This report is typically forwarded to the overseeing regulatory agency for release of the property.
